Storyboard

This is our storyboard so far, as you can see I'm obviously the next Picasso! This is the storyboard for the first verse, second verse, connecting lines and the instrumental which is essentially the first 1.21 of our video. All that's left to do now is the third and fourth verses, the connecting lines in between them and also the outro, then we are finished! (for now...) We've already got the basic plans for the rest of the song so I think we'll be done quite quickly, then just to get some feedback on what people think of it all.

We have emailed the management company for Half Moon Run in order to see whether or not they have any issues with us using their song for our music video. I found the email under the 'contact' tab on the band's website, here is the link: Half Moon Run's Website

Feedback

Last week I forced my mum and Ryan to listen to our song choices for what was possibly the 50th time. I asked them some questions and they gave me some feedback on what was their favourite out of our two song choices.

Star image reasearch project

Here is my second research project on a much smaller and less well known band 'Yellow Ostrich' from USA. This is the first time I've used Scribd and I really like it already, it's a much simpler way to display word documents rather than using screen shots and I like that you can zoom in and out!

Final song choice

After much deliberation Seher and I have finally decided which song we are going to produce a music video for, and the winner is (drum roll please...)

Full Circle by Half Moon Run!

Originally we weren't going to choose this song because after asking a few people most of them said it was boring, but after explaining our ideas and what the lyrics meant everyone who endured listening to me talk seemed to be on board with it! We've decided on this song rather than the Tom Odell song because we feel we have better ideas and a better story line for it. Also after watching both of the videos for Odell's song we don't think we'll be able to top them and we'd end up just trying to recreate something similar which would be one of those 'tragic love stories' bleurgh. Seher also came up with a good reason which was something along the lines of "we'll be filming in winter so a dark and dismal video would suit the weather" which I've decided is also reason enough! For our cemetery scene we've come up with some possible locations which are Edmonton Cemetery or Lavender Hill Cemetery as they're quite big, also the cemetery in Edmonton has a huge archway that would be absolutely perfect for one of the shots we're planning to use. I've already posted the themes and initial ideas for our video which can be found on the mind map (mind map post). We still need to discuss the lighting a little more but I think we'll be filming at dusk just before the sun goes down because it creates a nice glow!

The archway at Edmonton Cemetery

Here are the lyrics for the song:

Cap off kneeling at the back of the church,
Feeling water on your brow, if it's healing it hurts
At first a sharpish pain that returns as a thought
That the needle in your skin will bring you closer to God

And I watch as your head turns full circle

Our hope was with a coffee and a medical text
It's too easy knowin' nothing blowing off the rest
And the riddles in the pages leave at too much to guess
And the worry cracks a fracture from your hip to your chest

As I watch as your head turns full circle

We got lost in the travels in the spiritual book
Missed the beaches from Nirvana and the way that they look
And the crooks they're on the island they're killin' to keep runnin'
They're running severance on the plastic and it seems to be working

Is that the best that I can do?
As I watch as your head turns full circle

You appear even tempered though your looks will deceive
And the sparks are always flying ‘cause you drink for relief
With the heart of a child and the wit of a fool
It's a wonder why I don't try to build a wall around you

When I watch as your head turns full circle
And I watch as your head turns full circle
Yeah I watch as your head turns full circle

We spent a really long time trying to work out what the lyrics were about but even at first glance you are able to tell they are quite dark. During today's lesson we started storyboarding the music video and we managed to get down the shots and angles for the first verse and the line 'I watch as your head turns full circle'. I think we've decided to do a different shot for each line or a different shot for every two lines because we'll be able to easily narrate and show the progression of our story that way. We want to use a 360 degree tracking shot for the 'full circle' line because we feel it will demonstrate the line well. Seher and I spent a while trying to work out how we were going to achieve this shot without camera shake so we researched it on google and this was the result:

I would just like to say I think I'm going to personally hunt this man down and marry him for fixing our problem with a somewhat simple solution. I've had a word with the king of DIY aka my dad, and we've ordered the Lazy Susan thing without the plate on top and we're going to try and make this mechanism asap. Dad is even getting one of his work friends on board to do some soldering or something, no idea what that is... Hopefully it will be great!

Star Image - Radiohead

I've finally completed my first prezi on the construction of a Star's image. I chose to present my project on prezi because I thought it would be simple to insert videos, photos and articles so that they can be easily viewed.

The first vlog of the year!

I have successfully recorded my first vlog of the year. In one take. CAN I HEAR A ROUND OF APPLAUSE!

In this vlog I discuss:

  • Genre
  • Song choice
  • Planning and research
  • The plan for the week
  • Memory cards!
  • Filming of the feedback
  • Plan for Half Moon Run's 'Full Circle'

Anyway, Seher and I came up with some ideas for the Half Moon Run song today and we're really pleased with them. Initially I think we both thought if we chose that song people would get a bit bored watching the video, however after finally working out what the incredibly dark lyrics are sort of about, we got together a really good rough concept for the video. I have realised now that I may be a mind map addict, hopefully this will be the last one!

Here is the plan as a whole, not too messy thankfully!

Such a long list of occurring themes... Wow

We decided to break down the song bit by bit with our ideas for each verse

Dodgy person =  the alcohol/drug abusing character

'Missed the beaches from Nirvana and the way that they looked'
The friend/God = Narrator in a way

Still part of verse three ideas, we just ran out of space!

Possibly the most exciting revelation ever, thanks to Seher's brain

Tom Odell's little number

After asking for a few people's opinions (a few being everyone I could possibly ask!) it seems the general consensus is Tom Odell's song. I've listened to this song at least 200 times today and the fact that I'm not bored of it yet shows how great it is! However I now find myself humming it all the time which I have to admit is slightly annoying. Seher and I agreed to come to the lesson tomorrow with a few ideas for each of our final song choices in order to make our final decision easier so today I've been frantically listening to the song over and over in the hope of gaining some sort of idea of what we could do with it. We still need to film a few more people's opinions so hopefully tomorrow will be the day we make our absolute final decision!

Tonight's Agenda...

Tonight I've pulled out the camera once more! Seher and I came up with a really good idea today (well we think it's a good idea...) so we're going to play a group of people our two song choices to get their opinion too, seeing as we can't decide! I managed to get Ryan and my partially intoxicated mum involved, here's some pictures to give you a taste, we'll have to edit the videos on Monday!

Song Choice

Today we've managed to narrow our song choice down from four to two, originally we had:

Tom Odell - Another Love

Jake Bugg - Lightening Bolt

Fever Ray - When I Grow Up

Half Moon Run - Full circle

After a long discussion about each of the songs and after looking up all of the meaning of them we've decided that the Tom Odell song and the song by Half Moon Run would be our best choices. Obviously this will make producing our music video a little bit harder because we'll need a male to act as the singer in the video. Luckily my friends that helped us out by being in our film opening last year are willing to help us out again, hopefully this time they'll know what they're signing up for!

Second Prelim

Yesterday we realised that Seher wasn't in the class prelim so we've both decided it would be a good idea to do another one as a pair. After much deliberation we've decided to try and recreate the first minute of Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. We think it will be quite funny and relatively easy to try and redo so hopefully during tomorrows lesson we'll be able to grab a few extra people and get cracking!

In the meantime here's the original official video:

Media Partner

Woo I now have a media partner! Seher and I have looked over the song choices that I came up with and we've also looked over some of the song choices that she has. Here are some of the new ideas:
